Beware DSHI. I speak from experience.

They do not honour "you will never be under-insured because we value your house". I remember it being pushed that I didn't have to get a valuation on my home because they knew how much it was worth. Turns out the value is raised by the CPI, not real figures.

I lost my house in a fire December 2003 and was declared under-insured by them.

In 1992 (i think) parliament was told they were under-insuring.

Quotes to repair ranged from $48,000 - $60,000 over my insured value.

That was to REPAIR, not replace which the policy says it will do. I was easily $120,000 under-insured for replacement.

I was given a builder who did defective work and ignored most Australian Standards.

My 90 day building contract stretched to just over a year. DSHI refused accommodation when I requested it and I was finally left destitute with nowhere to live.

I am suing the builder because after nearly 5 years he is still ignoring the laws in Qld and refusing to fix any of the defects. My latest discovery is an undocumented variation he did (not requested by me) has led to me getting termites in the house because he did not do the required termite protection.

DSHI don't care about the standard off work, just it's been done
They paid the invoices without reference to me, and are now sitting beside the builder supporting him in court.
